You might try www.Yola.com. They give 1GB of storage with very minimal advertising. You can create a website with them or just use it for storage and link to the files from other blogs/sites that you may already have.
If you want to circulate ideas and files, you may be interested in a classroom management system like Moodle or Blackboard. Come to think of it SmartMusic would be a good choice as well. Not as pretty as a web page with embeded audio or midi, but ...

From what I see on the apple site, I could upload the files and share them, but don't see a way to share without having the students download the files. Could I create a online stream or playlist with MobileMe?
How about a ME account from Apple?
